Nevada Ballet Theatre’s Education & Outreach Division: Future Dance

Nevada Ballet Theatre has been a leader in arts education since 1980. Future Dance, its recognized and successful outreach program, was established in 1993 and currently serves nearly 6,000 students a year through its initiatives. By offering in-school dance classes and the opportunity to earn scholarships, Future Dance seeks to expose children from underserved communities to the art form of dance and provide talented students with a premiere arts education.

Future Dance consists of five distinct initiatives:

Dance Observations
Dance Observations serves as an orientation for students attending one of the participating Future Dance schools. Featuring artists from Nevada Ballet Theatre’s professional company, Dance Observations is Future Dance’s first presentation of the season and strives to provide an exhilarating yet educational dance experience in order to cultivate student participation in Future Dance In Schools.

Future Dance In Schools
Serving almost 600 students in grades three through five in 12 underserved Clark County public schools, Future Dance In Schools offers 25 weeks of free, school-based dance instruction by qualified Nevada Ballet Theatre teaching artists in a variety of disciplines, including ballet, jazz and hip-hop. The program is performance driven with the classes leading up to the annual Spring Concert.

School Matinee Series
Students of public, private, home and parochial schools in Clark County are invited to attend up to five main stage performances of Nevada Ballet Theatre’s professional productions at a deeply discounted rate. Held on Thursday mornings at 10:30 am, school matinees take place at UNLV’s Judy Bayley Theatre and Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall.

Future Dance Needs Your Support
Programs like Future Dance are vital to ensuring the underserved youth of Clark County, the nation’s fifth largest school district, receive an arts education, the rewards of which not only enrich young lives, but aid in motivating students to strive for a bigger, brighter tomorrow. Critical to the success of Future Dance is our proven ability to fund and manage the above initiatives, provide high-quality instructors and strengthen community advocacy. With continued donor support and recognition, Nevada Ballet Theatre can build and maintain these initiatives and most importantly, ensure that children are given a chance to dance.
